Detail of new features

OfficePower Web Version 1.5

OfficePower Web permits users to access OfficePower with a standard web browser, and provides a complete web server built in to OfficePower. New features in this version include:

  • Shared datafiles - includes manual or automatic changes refresh, and customised display forms can specify an open mode for the datafile, overriding preferences
  • Public Web Search - a web search-engine for all intranet pages AND an optional OfficePower Public Document area, containing OfficePower-Word or other documents in "public" filestore
  • "Full screen" mode - open records can be displayed in pop-up windows to allow easier use on low resolution monitors
  • "Direct data entry" mode - allows a login to provide (only) access to a shared datafile, for use as a "questionnaire" or similar application
  • Customised mail send pages - mail send to a fixed recipient for use in "feedback" or similar applications
  • Directory Preferences - all settings previously available in Directory Search using the "green screen" interface
  • "More mail" icon - to add recently received messages to a mailbox currently open
  • Mail redirect - on the mail preferences page, with recipient selected from distribution lists or directory
  • Embedded graphics as text in-fills - allows, for example, display of pictures as part of the "open" mode view of a datafile record
  • "Ease of use" enhancements, including:
    • Improved navigation within folder views
    • Next and Previous after deletion of records
    • Marked-set mail forward/copy/move/delete
    • Marked-set send/copy/move/delete of record objects
    • Marked-set copy/send in Directory Search
  • Server print for OfficePower-Word documents, record objects and mail - includes ability to print all records or messages found via Search, even if split over many page views
  • Viewing of 20/20 spreadsheets - via automatic conversion to Excel format
  • Change Password - including password expiry
  • New Toolbar preferences:
    • All toolbar icons (except Prefs & Logout) may now be toggled on or off as required.
    • A selection of new icons/options are available which can be added to the toolbar
    • Up to four user-customisable icons can now be added to the toolbar. Any object or folder can be linked to a supplied icon with appropriate descriptions and tool tips.
  • Additional colour options for control of all screen colours including text and backgrounds. Includes revised default preferences
  • Task Manager - tasks may be created, automatically passed to the next user in the list and updated to show current task status
  • Support for multiple IP addresses on a single ethernet interface via a virtual host - this allows OfficePower Web to share a TCP port with other Web servers, such as Teamware Pl@za and Apache
  • Support for independent communities - this allows groups of users to be invisible to each other and to use Web services without knowledge of other communities on the same server
  • Object conversion:
    • Object conversion is available from the object details page offering the normal conversions depending on object type.
    • Conversion of record file formats to CSV is available
  • New Native View icon on the object details page allows a record, document or ascii/csv file to be transferred to the client PC in native format without any conversion to HTML for display. Documents and record files are transferred in binary format whilst ascii/csv files are converted to contain PC end-of-line characters for easy upload into PC applications.
  • When sending mail, recipients can be removed from the recipient display window - this enables BCC/Reply To/Auth By recipients to be removed before sending the message.
  • When selecting Original Text to insert into a Reply mail message, the sender and timestamp of the original message is inserted before the text.

Pl@za for OfficePower

Teamware Group's new Pl@za product range provides web-based applications to help communities to share information and contact one another via an intranet or the Internet. Pl@za for OfficePower provides these facilities using your existing OfficePower server - with the added benefit that the information exchanged by Pl@za users can also be accessed by existing OfficePower users, even using the "green screen" user interface. Facilities in this initial version include:

  • Interactive Business Cards - your personal "home page"
  • Member List - identify and contact other members of the community
  • Who's online? - with access to Interactive Business Cards
  • Community Page - public information
  • Work Space - your personal view of the community
  • Login/out - secure access to community information
  • Registration - allowing password change
  • Message of the Day
  • Preferences for session customisation
  • Send mail from Business Cards to either Internet or OfficePower mailbox.
  • Totally separate look-and-feel from OfficePower, but with link into normal Folders display for full OfficePower Web functions

OfficePower Task Manager

Task Manager is an entry-level workflow system, implemented on your OfficePower server. A complete business procedure, such as the processing of an expense claim form, can be defined as a series of tasks, each requiring a number of actions by an individual user. Task Manager will notify each user of the actions required as the previous user in the chain completes his task. A list of documents or other objects can be attached to the task list, and an administrator can monitor the progress of the overall process.

OfficePower for Windows Version 2000

OfficePower 2000 includes an updated version of OfficePower for Windows, with many new features including:

  • Record object printing in Workspace
  • Record object conversion (to CSV) in Workspace
  • Graphical User Interface for Task Manager (see above), in Workspace
  • Graphical User Interface for mail filters, in Workspace
  • Object Links in Datafiles (see OfficePower UDAP below) in Workspace
  • Improved print formatter in Word Viewers
  • OP4W mail integration with Microsoft Internet Explorer

Web Forms Editor (FormEdit)

OfficePower Web permits the use of customised forms to display and update the contents of UDAP datafiles - these forms are written in HTML. OfficePower 2000's Web Forms Editor (FormEdit) is a PC-based graphical editor which enables you to produce these HTML forms from the existing OfficePower-Word forms you use with the datafile. Fields and text strings can be re-positioned using drag-and-drop, and graphics, colour, and other features can be added to the forms.

PowerSearch

OfficePower 2000 includes an updated version of PowerSearch, with new features including:

  • Support for non-document objects - for example, search and find OfficePower record objects or Excel workbooks as well as OfficePower-Word and other documents
  • Search for objects held in any UNIX directory as well as OfficePower folders
  • Enhanced search results, including document titles and summaries

OfficePower-Word

  • Original Document system infill - this infill retains the original name assigned when a document was created, rather than the current name (as given by the existing Document Name infill) if the document has been copied or mailed elsewhere.
  • Search Paths for Document Templates - enables a user to access templates stored in another user's folders (for example, a library of templates used by a group of users) as well as his personal templates and the "public" templates

OfficePower UDAP

  • Object Links in Datafiles - a field in a record can include a link to a document or other object, and a user can view or update the linked object by soft key from within UDAP.
  • "RETURN to go to following field" preference - easier navigation through an array of numeric fields in a UDAP form.
  • Save/Recall of Long Search Patterns - you can re-use long search patterns without having to type them in again.

OfficePower Mail

  • Internet Mail Gateway support for original sent-time - the gateway now passes on the original time an Internet message was sent when the message is viewed in an OfficePower mailbox.
  • Support for "file transfer body part" in received mail - improved support for attachments received from external X.400 mail systems.
